Heritage Chorale announces the availability of its Marcie Hartman scholarship for a high school junior or senior currently residing or attending high school in Oak Park, River Forest, or Forest Park or singing in a youth choir in one of those villages.
The student selected will sing with Heritage Chorale and then receive an award of $1,000 for use in pursuing further music study in the vocal arts in 2018. To be eligible, the student must be in good academic standing and recommended by his or her high school or youth choral director, voice teacher, or other professional musician familiar with the applicant’s singing ability. Finalists will audition for Heritage Chorale’s artistic director.
Applicants must commit to sing with Heritage Chorale for its spring semester beginning January 8, 2018 and ending with the spring concert performances in April 2018. Regular rehearsals are held on Monday evenings in Oak Park. One or more supplemental rehearsals may also be scheduled.
Eligible applicants will be assessed on the basis of singing experience, ability, and quality, considering information included in the application, the recommendation submitted with the application and finalist auditions. Consideration will also be given to the Chorale’s voice part needs.
Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2017. Auditions will be individually scheduled with finalists in December 2017 or January 2018. Final selection will be made shortly thereafter and before the beginning of Heritage Chorale’s spring semester in January 2018.
The scholarship award will be made after the candidate’s successful completion of the spring semester with Heritage Chorale in April 2018.
The scholarship payment will be made to the student’s selected college, youth chorus, music school, voice teacher or other institution or individual providing assurance satisfactory to Heritage Chorale that the award will be used for music study in the vocal arts.
