Heritage Chorale announces the availability of its Marcie Hartman scholarship for a high school junior or senior currently residing, attending high school or member of a youth chorus, in Oak Park, River Forest or Forest Park.
The student selected will sing with Heritage Chorale and then receive an award of $1000 to pursue further music study in the vocal arts in 2017. To be eligible, the student must be in good academic standing and be recommended by his or her high school or youth choral director, voice teacher or other professional musician familiar with the applicant’s singing ability. Two such recommendations are required. The applicant also needs to submit a CD or DVD of a solo piece sung by him or her. Finalists will audition for Heritage Chorale’s Artistic Director James Kallembach.
Applicants must commit to join and sing in the Heritage Chorale chorus for its spring semester beginning in January 2017 and ending with the spring concert performances on April 29 and 30, 2017.
Eligible applicants will be assessed based on singing experience, ability and quality, taking into consideration information included in the application, the recommendations submitted with it, the vocal performance CD/DVD and finalist auditions. Consideration will also be given to the voice part needs of the chorus.
Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2016. Auditions will be individually scheduled with finalists in December 2016 or January 2017. Final conditional selection will be made shortly thereafter and before the beginning of Heritage Chorale’s spring semester in January 2017.
Applications should be submitted to:

The scholarship award will be made after the candidate’s successful completion of the spring semester with Heritage Chorale in April 2017.
The scholarship payment will be made to the student’s selected college, youth chorus, music school, voice teacher or other institution or individual providing assurance satisfactory to Heritage Chorale that the award will be used for music study in the vocal arts.
