Heritage Chorale welcomed our new artistic director, Wen Chin Liu, as we performed a program featuring Antonio Vivaldi’s Introduction (RV639) and Gloria (RV588), accompanied by an orchestral ensemble. Joyful, lighthearted, and radiant works by Ola Gjeilo, Morten Lauridsen, Giovanni Gabrieli, Alice Parker, Elaine Hagenberg, and others completed the program.
The first half of Heritage Chorale’s spring concert celebrates the blossoming of contemporary women composers—with songs by American composers Emma Lou Diemer, Elaine Hagenberg, Alice Parker, Rosephanye Powell, Williametta Spencer, and Gwyneth Walker; Wenxin Li’s setting of a poem from the Tang dynasty; and Geneviene Wong’s arrangement of Southeast Asian folk tunes.
In the second half the Chorale turns to Randall Thompson’s Frostiana: Seven Country Songs, beautiful settings of several of Robert Frost’s beloved poems.
