Heritage Chorale Marcie Hartman Mentoring/Scholarship for 2024

Heritage Chorale announces the availability of its Marcie Hartman vocal scholarship for 2024. Eligibility extends to high school juniors and seniors who reside, attend high school, or sing in a youth choir, in Oak Park, River Forest, or Forest Park.

The student selected sings with Heritage Chorale for its spring concert season and then receives an award of $1,000 for vocal arts study. Applicants must be in good academic standing and be recommended by their high school or youth choral director, voice teacher, or other professional musician familiar with their singing ability. Finalists will audition for Heritage Chorale’s Artistic Director.

Applicants must commit to sing with Heritage Chorale beginning in January, 2024 and ending with concert performances on April 13 and 14, 2024. Regular rehearsals are held on Monday evenings. Two regular rehearsal absences are permitted. Dress rehearsals on the Monday and Friday evenings preceding the performances are mandatory.

Eligible applicants will be assessed on singing experience, ability and quality, based on information included in the application, the professional recommendation, and finalist auditions. Consideration will also be given to Heritage Chorale’s voice part needs.

Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2023. Auditions will be individually scheduled with finalists in December 2023 or January 2024. Final selection will be made before the beginning of Heritage Chorale’s spring semester.

The scholarship will be awarded after the candidate’s successful completion of the spring concert season with Heritage Chorale in April 2024.

The scholarship payment will be made to the student’s selected college, music school, voice teacher, or other institution or individual providing assurance that the award will be used for music study in the vocal arts.
