Heritage Chorale Marcie Hartman Mentoring/Scholarship for 2021

Given the challenges to in-person singing presented by the pandemic, the parameters of the 2021 Marcie Hartman Scholarship Program are being revisited.  Please check back for updated information.

Heritage Chorale announces the availability of its Marcie Hartman scholarship for a high school junior or senior who resides or attends high school in Oak Park, River Forest, or Forest Park or who sings in a youth choir in one of these villages.

The student selected will sing with Heritage Chorale and then receive an award of $1,000 for use in pursuing music study in the vocal arts in 2021. Applicants must be in good academic standing and be recommended by their high school or youth choral director, voice teacher, or other professional musician familiar with their singing ability. Finalists will audition for Heritage Chorale’s Artistic Director.

Applicants must commit to sing with Heritage Chorale for its spring semester beginning January 6, 2021 and ending with the spring concert performances on April 25 and 26, 2021. Regular rehearsals are held on Monday evenings. Two regular rehearsal absences are permitted. Dress rehearsals on the Monday and Friday evenings immediately preceding the performances are mandatory.

Eligible applicants will be assessed on the basis of singing experience, ability, and quality, based on information included in the application, the recommendation submitted with the application, and finalist auditions. Consideration will also be given to the Chorale’s voice part needs.

Application deadline to be determined.  Auditions will be individually scheduled with finalists in December 2020 or January 2021.  Final selection will be made shortly thereafter and before the beginning of Heritage Chorale’s spring semester in January 2021.

The scholarship award will be made after the candidate’s successful completion of the spring semester with Heritage Chorale in April 2021.

The scholarship payment will be made to the student’s selected college, music school, voice teacher, or other institution or individual providing assurance satisfactory to Heritage Chorale that the award will be used for music study in the vocal arts.
