The Chorale was joined by soloists and chamber orchestra in a performance of Mozart's Solemn Vespers (Vesperae solennes de Confessore), settings of five psalms and Mary's Magnificat.  Morten Lauridsen's enchanting Nocturnes, along with other songs of romance, completed the program.

We explored the four elements—Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water—featuring J. Aaron McDermid’s From Light to Light, a setting of the evocative text by Susan Palo Cherwien. Works by John Rutter, Stephen Paulus, Frank Ticheli, Samuel Barber, and others completed the program.

Past Seasons

John Rutter’s sublime Requiem plus selections by American composers André Thomas, René Clausen, and Susan LaBarr and a commissioned piece from Grace Coberly, former Heritage Chorale scholarship recipient.

As Heritage Chorale continued to celebrate its 40th anniversary, this concert featured the commissioned work “Norb: Life as an Art Form,” by Primetime Emmy Award and BMI Film and Television Award winner Alex Wurman. The piece explores the artistic journey of Norbert Teclaw, one of the founders of Heritage Chorale.  The program also included John Leavitt’s joyful Missa FestivaPaul Carey’s “The Whole World Is Glad of the Wind,” commissioned in 2014 and dedicated to our pianist, Tehra Hiolski; and works by Leonard Bernstein, Eleanor Daley, and Franz Schubert.

Works by Barber, Brahms, Finzi, Mendelssohn, Pachelbel, and Rachmaninoff and the premiere of Scott Howard Eggert’s “Teach Me Your Mood,” commissioned by Heritage Chorale.

We celebrated women composers Emma Lou Diemer, Elaine Hagenberg, Alice Parker, Rosephanye Powell, Williametta Spencer, and Gwyneth Walker.  The program included Wenxin Li’s setting of a poem from the Tang dynasty, Geneviene Wong’s arrangement of Southeast Asian folk tunes, and concluded with Randall Thompson’s Frostiana, beautiful settings of several of Robert Frost’s beloved poems.

Heritage Chorale welcomed our new artistic director, Wen Chin Liu, as we performed a program featuring Antonio Vivaldi’s Introduction (RV639) and Gloria (RV588), accompanied by an orchestral ensemble.  Works by Ola Gjeilo, Morten Lauridsen, Giovanni Gabrieli, Alice Parker, Elaine Hagenberg, and others completed the program.

Selections from the socially-driven Chilean Nueva Canción (New Song) movement and Ariel Ramírez’s Misa Criolla, accompanied with original Andean instruments.  Performed entirely in Spanish and presented with South American ensemble Raíces del Ande.

Blossoming Forth: A Celebration of Contemporary Women Composers

Love ballads to gospel songs composed or arranged by American composers, including Aaron Copland, Norman Dello Joio, Joseph Jennings, Moses Hogan, and Leonard Bernstein. Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass was the featured work.

In 2024, Heritage Chorale celebrated its 40th anniversary. Our spring concert featured Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five

Mystical Songs and Benjamin Britten's Festival Te Deum and Jubilate Deo in C.  These stirring works of praise captured the spirit of joy and gratitude at the heart of our celebration.  Also included were pieces by Heinrich Schütz, Stephen Paulus, and David Dickau, and an anthem by Harriet Ziegenhals, artistic director of Heritage in our second decade.
